Part 3: Getting ready for bed

Creating an intentional bedtime routine will set you up for a good night’s rest. I like to add things into my bedtime routine that will also help me have a smooth morning. The purpose of the bedtime routine is to help you transition from day to night and prepare your brain for rest.

Here’s what my routine looks like:

  • Feed my pet rabbit
  • Prepare the coffee maker for the next morning
  • Put a glass of water by my bedside
  • Brush teeth
  • Wash face
  • Check my alarm clocks
  • Put on lotion & chapstick
  • Write in my gratitude diary

Some other ideas you can incorporate into your routine:

  • Light stretching or yoga
  • Praying or meditating
  • Set out your clothes for the next day
  • Drink a cup of herbal tea
  • Read a book
  • Listen to music

Pick a time to start getting ready for bed every night, and try to stick with it as best you can. If you’re consistent, your body will start to get tired at that time, and going to sleep will be even easier.

When you stick to your routine every single night it will become second nature. It will signal to your brain that it’s time to go to sleep. Pick activities that help put you in a calm and restful mood.
